Council Promotes Ag Growth, Awareness
Benjamin Herrold, Missouri Farmer Today

July 26, 2014, KANSAS CITY, MO:  When Bob Petersen thinks back on his experience with the Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City, he says he has worked with the council “since the beginning of time.”

Petersen says that only half-jokingly. He has been involved with the council since its inception in 2003.

Petersen, executive director of the council, remembers sitting at the table for the earliest planning meetings, talking about what organizers wanted the council to be.

“It was really to fill the void of an agricultural chamber of commerce,” he says.

The Kansas City Chamber of Commerce no longer had an ag committee, and Petersen saw the success of the St. Louis Agribusiness Club in advocating for and promoting agriculture.

The Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City is an association that advocates growth and awareness of the food, fiber, agri-science and related industries in the Kansas City region.

Established in late 2003, the Council's mission is to enhance greater understanding about this important industry by joining together Kansas and Missouri agricultural organizations, agribusinesses and other key leaders. This alliance includes more than 250 individuals, businesses and organizations associated with the extensive agricultural and food industry.

The Council has proved to be a success as a networking opportunity and a forum to hear from government officials and industry executives.  The Council also seeks to be an advocate for agriculture and agricultural economic growth in this region.
